Uthaya Oli Dairy Processing Initiative

Overview
Uthaya Oli is a not-for-profit organisation in Pattipallai, Batticaloa, Sri Lanka, founded and managed by individuals with disabilities. With nearly 400 disabled members and their families, Uthaya Oli is dedicated to creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for its members.
Project Objective
With the support of Tamil Community Empowerment Council Australia Inc, Uthaya Oli aims to establish a dairy processing factory to produce yoghurt, ghee, and dairy milk snacks. This initiative will be launched with an initial investment of USD 5,090 (1.5 million LKR) and will serve as a sustainable employment project for people with disabilities.
Employment & Economic Impact
The project will initially provide part-time employment for five disabled individuals, with plans to expand into full-time positions and create additional job opportunities in the future.
As a not-for-profit entity, all revenue generated will be reinvested to support operations, expand production, and provide further livelihood assistance to Uthaya Oli members.
Location & Dairy Supply
The factory will be strategically located near Kokkatticholai, Sri Lanka an area known for its strong dairy farming industry. This ensures a stable and consistent supply of fresh cow’s milk while supporting local dairy farmers.
Market Demand & Sustainability
The demand for dairy products is high in the region, with schools, shops, places of worship, and a large Hindu temple being major consumers.
By catering to these needs, Uthaya Oli’s dairy products will contribute to the economic sustainability of the organisation while promoting inclusivity and empowerment for people with disabilities.
